Bahamas

BAHAMAS
It has been about a month now since my visit to the Bahamas. The picture to the left is of my feet, as I am relaxing by the crystal clear waters of Nassau, Bahamas. I tried to get the Corona Extra feel and emulate the "Miles Away From Ordinary" slogan. Besides the beautiful weather, the Atlantis, and friendly Bahamians; it was an amazing trip for a guy like me and I'm about to tell you why. I was in company with the likes of: Barry Bonds, Michael Jordan, Terrell Owens, Ahmad Rashad, Marcus Allen, Lawrence Taylor, Charles Oakley, Kenny Lofton, and Cedric the Entertainer. Now I don't mean to name drop, but c'mon...those are some "A" list celebs.
On Sunday morning we landed at the Miami airport en route to Nassau. As I was walking through the food court I noticed a large man (he kind of looked like he had used performance enhancers in the past) stand up. Right away I recognized him. It was Barry Bonds! Just enjoying a smoothie...no big deal. I walked past him and started thinking "Well I can't just not talk to Barry Bonds at an airport." So I went back to search for him. As I was walking towards his direction, he was walking to a trashcan right next to me to throw away his smoothie. I just said "Hey Barry, how's it goin'?" He looked at me, raised his eyebrows and gave me the typical Barry Bonds sneer. I wouldn't have expected anything less. After I got on the airplane, I was mad at myself because I had just realized that I could have taken his smoothie out of the trashcan after he left, and taken it to a lab for testing, or sell it on eBay.
We arrived safely at the Bahamas and stayed in the Atlantis. While we were there, we did typical tourist stuff. My dad and I rode jetski's in the ocean, we went to small markets, walked around, relaxed by the beach, went down the "Leap of Faith" slide, smoked some hand rolled cigars, and ate at awesome restaurants.
Michael Jordan was hosting a golf invitational while we were staying there. We thought we would go to the golf course and check it out to see if we could rub elbows with the rich and famous. It seemed like a long shot, but turns out it wasn't at all. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and cordial. They showed us a list of all the players and their tee times. There weren't more than 10 people at the course either because it was a practice round before the big tournament, which would be that weekend. So we arrive and see Ahmad Rashad, Marcus Allen, and Charles Oakley teeing off on the 1st hole (we missed Jordan by about 10 minutes.) We were only 5 feet from them. I mean you could hear their conversations, jokes, everything! We could only watch them play on the 1st, 10th, and 12th holes because they were around the clubhouse. No one was allowed to walk the course, and rightfully so. Well, we decided to hang around for a while and catch MJ on the 10th and 12th holes. As we're waiting, I see Kenny Lofton walking out of the clubhouse. I just casually said "Hey, how are ya, Kenny." He smiled and said "Good! How are you, man?" Just a little more friendly than Bonds, don't you think?
I turn around after that and a limo is pulling up. Kenny starts yelling "CED! CED!" So I go check it out and Cedric the Entertainer gets out. Nicest guy ever. He comes over, signs autographs, and takes pictures with the people there. I was very impressed. That night, we were walking through the casino of our hotel and I noticed Terrell Owens, playing blackjack at the high-rollers table. I just told my dad "Look! There's TO!" He kind of looked up, but I didn't say anything to him because he had a 300 pound bodyguard with him. Why? I have no idea.
All in all, it was one of the best trips ever. I would love to go back to Nassau and stay at the Atlantis again.
